How we collect, use, store and protect your personal information. Effective 19 October 2026.
Careers Expert Group Pty Ltd, trading as Careers Expert Group ("we", "us", "our"), respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles. It applies to this website and to the services we provide in New Zealand.
The personal information we collect depends on how you deal with us. It may include:
We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs or criminal record. If a document you send us contains it, we will only use it as needed to provide the service you asked for.
We collect most information directly from you: when you complete a form or upload your CV on our website, book a consultation, speak with us by phone or video, or email us. We may also collect information from someone else with your knowledge, for example an employer who arranges outplacement support for you, or from publicly available sources such as your public LinkedIn profile.
You can deal with us without giving your name for general enquiries, but we cannot assess your CV or provide our services without identifying you.
We use your personal information to:
We will never approach a search firm, employer, board or recruiter on your behalf, or share your CV with them, without your agreement.
We use software tools, including artificial intelligence services provided by Anthropic, to help us review CVs and prepare first drafts of assessments, documents and research. Our team reviews this work before it is sent to you, and the decisions about your service are made by people. Our AI providers process your information on our behalf under terms that do not permit them to use it to train their models.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to provide our services, with:
Some of our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand, and Careers Expert Group has offices and team members in other countries. Where we disclose your information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by safeguards comparable to those in the Privacy Act 2020, as Information Privacy Principle 12 requires.
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to work properly, understand how it is used and measure the results of our advertising, including through tools provided by Google and LinkedIn. These tools may collect information such as your device, browser and the pages you visit. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad personalisation through your Google and LinkedIn account settings. Some parts of the site may not work as intended if cookies are disabled.
We may send you career insights, updates and offers. Every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to stop at any time by contacting us. We will still send messages you need about a service you have booked.
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure, including access controls and secure, encrypted services. We keep your information only for as long as we need it to provide our services and meet our legal and record-keeping obligations, then securely destroy or de-identify it. If a privacy breach causes, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days. If we cannot meet your request, for example because the law requires us to keep certain records, we will explain why.
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz or on 0800 803 909.
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be on this page, with the date it took effect.
